As 2016 speedily inches into vision, Facebook released its ‘Year in Review’ list of most talked about topics, personalities and places across the globe for 2015. With 1.55 billion active monthly users engaging in an unending flurry of activity on the site, its safe to say that this, perhaps, best represents a snapshot of what mattered the most to people globally this year and what it will be remembered for.
“Year in Review top 10 lists were measured by how frequently a topic was mentioned in Facebook posts made between January and December 2015. To put this list together, Facebook posts were analysed in an aggregated, anonymised way, and then ranked to create a snapshot of the year on Facebook,” says the social media giant.
Unsurprisingly, tragedies like the Paris terror attacks, the Nepal earthquake and the Syrian refugee crisis dominate the list. Other top 10s compiled by Facebook include places, new sticker packs, athletes, entertainers, movies, politicians, new games and TV shows.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, comes in ninth place in the list of politicians which is topped by Barack Obama.
