Elon Musk’s Neuralink Gets FDA Nod For In-human Clinical Study

Billionaire Elon Musk’s neurotechnology company Neuralink has received the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval to launch its first-in-human clinical study.

The brain implant company previously sought FDA approval in early 2022 but the FDA had rejected the application, according to a Reuters report.

Another Reuters report mentioned that more than 1,500 animals had been killed in the development of the Neuralink BCI since 2018.

Meanwhile, Neuralink announced that recruitment for human clinical trials is not open yet.

Founded in 2016, Neuralink aspires to create generalised brain interface to restore autonomy to those with unmet medical needs today. The company says on its website that its brain-computer interface is fully implantable, cosmetically invisible, and “designed to let you control a computer or mobile device anywhere you go”.
