Devita Saraf's Dare To Disrupt With VU Technologies
A lady shattering the glass ceiling in the corporate world may sound a bit clichéd now but someone disrupting the market with next-generation products is truly setting a precedent for others. Devita Saraf is an Indian businesswoman, best known for founding Vu Technologies (aka Vu Televisions) where she serves as the CEO and Design Head. Despite stiff competition from Japanese and Korean multinationals, Devita has built her brainchild Vu Televisions into a $100 million enterprise, the largest-selling TV brand across e-commerce platforms in India.
"Our brand has been very successful in offering the right products at the right price point. Being a hands-on professional, I ensured that we remained focus on quality and innovation rather than making any nondescript product. While Zenith is mass technology focused, Vu sells innovative luxury items. My vision is that my company becomes the number one consumer technology brand in India," as revealed by Devita Saraf, while talking to BW Businessworld.
Saraf attended Queen Mary School, Mumbai and later attended the H.R. College of Commerce and Economics and the University of Southern California, where she received a Bachelor of Business Administration. She started her career at age 16 at Zenith Computers and was named as the Director of Marketing when she was 21. In 2006 Saraf went from being the head of marketing to CEO. When she was just 24, she started Vu Technologies, a luxury television brand and an LED TV and display manufacturer founded in Mumbai in 2006. The company has drawn a blueprint to go beyond Televisions and is exploring numerous segments. Already achieving the distinction of selling more than one million units, its revenue projections for this fiscal is Rs. 750 crore and Rs. 1,200 crore during FY 2018-19.
Besides taking India to the world through her business, Devita represents her country on several global platforms with great confidence, making her a valued contributor to global discussions as well as Indian government initiatives like PM Modi's recent Champions of Change programme. She strives to play an important role in changing the perception of doing business in and with India as well as actually creating a more conducive business environment in the country.
