OpenAI has announced significant updates to its ChatGPT iOS app, aimed at enhancing user experience and expanding accessibility. The latest updates include Shortcuts integration, Siri support, drag and drop functionality and improved iPad compatibility.
The new Shortcuts integration allows users to create ChatGPT prompts and save them as links between the AI tool and different apps. This integration enables users to easily ask ChatGPT to solve problems or provide information and then share the responses with friends via messaging or save them as notes. Siri support further enhances accessibility by allowing users to invoke ChatGPT or create Shortcuts using voice commands.
The drag and drop feature facilitates seamless integration between ChatGPT and other iOS apps. Users can now extract messages from the ChatGPT interface and transfer them to other apps effortlessly. This manual method of integration complements the existing Shortcuts functionality, giving users flexibility in choosing the most suitable method for their needs.
OpenAI has also addressed a previous limitation with iPad usage. Initially, the ChatGPT app was optimised for iPhone-sized displays, providing a suboptimal experience for iPad users. With the latest updates, ChatGPT now takes full advantage of the larger screen real estate on iPads, offering a more immersive and seamless user interface.
These updates follow the recent expansion of ChatGPT across Apple's platforms. OpenAI initially launched the iOS app for US users in mid-May and subsequently expanded its availability to 11 additional countries. The app already offered conversation syncing to computers and access to GPT-4 for ChatGPT Plus subscribers.
While OpenAI continues to advance the presence of ChatGPT on Apple devices, Android users will have to wait for the release of an Android app to access the AI-powered chat tool.
