Charu Thapar, as the Managing Director - Property & Asset Management Services (PAM), JLL India, is taking rapid strides to double the growth of the she is heading in the next couple of years. Being responsible for the business unit's strategic direction and managing a 2,500 member team, her division contributes around 15% of the firm's overall revenues. Prior to joining JLL, she has worked with Cushman & Wakefield where she was the Managing Director - Asset Services Client Solutions, Asia Pacific with exposure to establishing, consolidating and implementing best practices in China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Indonesia and India.
Having the expertise in Cost Management, Business Development, Client Relations, Technology and Systems as well as servicing various local and international clients, she maintained that it was an immense challenge for her to turn around a businessline which was making losses for so many years. Talking to BW Businessworld, she revealed, "The only way to make things work for you is through collaboration and teamwork. So it has been conscious decision on getting a like-minded people working in the same direction. I also believe the usage of technology was a prominent strategy for our future growth. So we consciously decided to imbibe operational technologies that have led to improved productivity in our workforce. We now see immense productivity in them."
At present, Thapar is responsible for the overall property management operations across a portfolio spanning c.200 million sq. ft, consisting of over 275 properties spread across multiple property types, including Commercial Office Buildings, Retail Malls, Residential Complexes and a major sporting arena, across the country. She played a prominent role in adding institutional investors among its client base just when she took over the reins at JLL.
She is a member of Asia Pacific Executive Leadership for PAM, Asia Pacific Premium Asset Group, Asia Pacific Premium Residential Group and the India Leadership Council. She was also was awarded the 'Leading Global Client Solutions Professional 2006' as well as the "C&W Honors 2007" awards, the highest professional recognitions within the organization.
