Every development policy and framework is envisioned to bring fundamental changes to the social structure of society. India has a diverse and vast social structure along with a welfare government system, that provides a better chance for every social stratum of flourishment. The social sector in India includes health, education, sanitation and social security and every policy of the state or central government revolves around the betterment of these sectors as these aspects influence human lives directly.
Prepared by the NITI Aayog with the collaboration of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), “Best Practices in Social Sector: A Compendium, 2023” is targeting to highlight the best among all the programmes which have brought significant changes to human lives at the grassroots level. In order to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence the compendium has taken 75 case studies across 14 key social sectors of different states.
The case studies that the compendium has documented are provided by the 30 ministries and departments. The case studies are divided by the sectors and included those programmes that benefitted the people on a larger scale.
In the agriculture sector, there are multiple programmes mentioned like Black Rice Initiative in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh 18 Department of Agriculture, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Odisha Millets Mission 14 Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE), Government of Odisha and Dr YSR Rythu Bharosa Kendralu - a one-stop solution for farmers 10 Government of Andhra Pradesh.
While in the education sectors, programmes like Academic Bank of Credits 31 Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, School Adoption Initiative, Darrang (Assam) 38 District Administration, Darrang, Government of Assam and Shiksha Sarathi Yojana, Singrauli 45 District Administration, Singrauli, Government of Madhya Pradesh are noted by the compendium.
Like these initiatives, the sectors of environment, Science & technology, social welfare, and skill development are underlined with a number of programmes and policies.
The coalition of all the policies and programmes documented by the compendium signifies the state’s effort to provide social benefits to the different sections of society. On the other hand, if one wants to look up to and take note of all the implemented and to-be-executed programmes, this compendium is going to be a major source of the description of all those frameworks along with strong data and their impact on the concerned people.
