Responsible for some path-breaking innovations in the wire and cable industry, Anil Gupta has been an inspiration, a driving force and a guide behind KEI Industries’ vision and journey to become a champion in its category, with a strong corporate identity. He joined KEI group in 1979, and steadily rose up the ranks to become to chairman and managing Director of KEI Industries. In the past 40 years, while being at the helm of the KEI Industries and associate companies, he has been prolific in executing policies of the company and leading it to great avenues.
In 2017, under the leadership of Gupta, KEI reported 15 per cent overall growth in turnover as net sales rose from 2,326 crore in FY16 to 2,669 crore in FY17. PAT for the year surged to 59 per cent, going up from 62 crore to 99 crore. “Amid a favourable external environment, we touched many milestones of success during FY17 on the back of our continued efforts to strengthen our connect with all our stakeholders, especially consumers. This powerful connect steered our growth across verticals, and has laid the foundation for further expansion and progress through the entire value chain of our business. The dynamically-evolving industry landscape, with its burgeoning opportunities in the form of the government’s development schemes across sectors and the growing private industry demand for cables, offer an exceptionally robust platform for our future growth, which we are well-placed to leverage,” said Gupta in the latest annual report of the company. In the report, he also added that “Our diversified portfolio of products has emerged as a key strength, which we shall focus even more on expanding in the years ahead to meet the niche needs of our growing clientele. Training and empowerment of people to take on future opportunities is also high on our agenda, as we move responsibly forward on our strategic roadmap with an increasing focus on CSR activities aimed at holistic value creation for all our stakeholders, and the community at large.”
There was also a 98 per cent growth in exports of KEI in 2017; and with an extensive international footprint spanning 45 countries, KEI continued to strengthen its global presence during the year under review, with growth boosted by new orders received from oil and gas utilities in Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Oman, and also many utilities in Africa, SAARC region and the Middle East. Gupta spearheaded this growth and initiated various policies in marketing, production, quality control and product development. His perseverance and pioneering ideas have played a crucial role in putting KEI on the path of success.
In 2017, with Gupta at the helm, the company reported Rs 2,669 crore in net sales, an increase from Rs 2,326 crore in 2016, and Rs 2,835 crore in gross revenue (against Rs 2,498 crore in 2016), along with a 15 per cent growth in turnover and Rs 1,700 crore market capitalisation.
