Indian government’s tryst with VPN continues as it has now banned its employees from using VPNs and cloud services. The new directive asks government employees to refrain from using third-party VPN.
After the last few weeks where we saw third-party VPN providers like Surfshark, ExpressVPN, and NordVPN decided to shut their Indian servers, the government has now asked its employees to not use any of the VPN services. Additionally, they have also been asked to refrain from saving internal critical documents on non-government cloud services like Dropbox or Google Drive.
In the directive to its employees, the government said that these steps will help improve its the security posture. This rule is extended to all employees including temporary, contractual/outsourced resources also.
Further, the directive asked government employees to not “root” or “jailbreak” their smartphones, and not tot use CamScanner to scan government documents.
