HP To Manufacture Google Chromebook Under 'Make in India' Initiative

Adding a stride to 'Make in India' initiative, major electronic manufacture HP on Thursday announced a partnership with Google to manufacture its Chromebooks in India.

The devices will be manufactured at the Flex Facility, which is located near Chennai, where HP has been producing a range of laptops and desktops since August 2020. 

The company said in a statement that the production of HP Chromebooks will start from 2 October. Produced goods will cater to the demand for affordable PCs in India mainly from the education sector.

Vickram Bedi, Senior Director of Personal Systems at HP India in statement said, "The production of Chromebook laptops in India will facilitate convenient access to cost-effective PCs for Indian students. Through our continued expansion of manufacturing operations, we remain dedicated to endorsing the government's 'Make in India' initiative."

Chromebooks are popular devices among  Kindergarten to Class 12 students, helping over 50 million students and teachers across the world. 

These devices are equipped with ChromeOS, they have built-in accessibility and security features to deepen classroom connections and keep user information safe.

Bani Dhawan, Head of Education-South Asia at Google, expressed, "The commencement of local Chromebook production in partnership with HP signifies a significant stride in our commitment to advancing digital education transformation in India."

In the year 2021 December, HP started local manufacturing of laptops in India, including HP EliteBooks, HP ProBooks, and HP G8 series notebooks. 

Recently GOI has issued a notification to ban import of laptops and tablets from November. HP and Google partnership will help boost the Indian market by adapting to government policies.
