World bank’s prediction that India’s waste generation will reach 3.77 lakh tonnes by 2025, makes waste management one of the pressing issues in our country. To further contribute to this problem, the world sees India, a country which generates 1.43 lakh tonnes of solid waste per day, as the perfect spot for garbage disposal. Various efforts made by Urban Local Bodies and private stakeholders to educate people on waste segregation were not successful in realising their purpose. Government can’t successfully implement policies unless people actively participate in it. We as citizens should do our bit and take small steps to combat such problems. On World Environment Day, we have compiled a list of green theme apps designed specifically for waste management.
