Have you ever seen a gadget that compels you to question its existence? Well, we at BW Businessworld, got our hands on such a product and we have mixed feelings about it. NU Republic’s Cyberstud Spin is here to dazzle you with its TWS earbuds and keep your ADHD-clad low attention span brain busy with little bursts of dopamine with its fidget spinner earbud case. Yes, a 360-degree spinning case that will make a lot of people realise that the ‘inner child’ we keep hearing about is probably real.
We have to admit that using a fidget spinner instead of a regular case was a genius move. The inner child in all of us would not only love the fiery red colourway but it would also be a great way to just have our way with the fidget spinner.
The Cyberstud Spin case doesn’t just house the earbuds but it also entertains with sound effects opening and closing the case, so to speak. It emulates a sheath wherein the earbuds are kept. I’ll have to admit, it does add to the fun quotient.
The earbuds carry 13mm audio drivers and what the brand calls the X-Bass technology, which when combined, deliver an audio output that doesn't cease to amaze.
The thing about innovation is that it doesn’t always need to look good. As long as a product has utility and substance, it will prevail, which is exactly the case of the NU Republic Cyberstud Spin earbuds.
What we initially deemed as a gimmick turned out to be better than expected. The audio output that these TWS earbuds offer is quite good. The X-Bass technology, as the company calls it, delivers a decent amount of bass while keeping the vocals and instruments clear. It would be a fool’s errand to expect premium-grade audio from budget earbuds so, one should consider this before going on a comparison spree.
The battery is crucial when buying TWS earbuds. Surprisingly, this is also an aspect where the NU Republic Cyberstud Spin excels at. The claimed 70-hour run time is close to accurate. We used the buds for almost 3 days straight without giving it a break and it worked without a hiccup.
The Cyberstud Spin earbuds are not the best when it comes to ergonomics. The tips fit inside the ear canal well. They offer a comfortable overall experience while listening to music or streaming content on YouTube. The problem begins when the earbuds begin to slip due to sweat. Keeping them on and making sure they don’t fall off is a major turn-off.
The era of fidget spinners came long after I graduated school so I wasn’t actively participating in illegal back alley evening fidget spinning or fidgeting, whatever you prefer calling it. I was, however, heavily intrigued by these little rotatable objects that were engineered in a way that they could spin longer than average pieces of plastic. Add a pair of earbuds in one of them and we have ourselves an innovative first-of-its-kind product. Not to mention the awesome sound effects that add to the theatrics of playing with the fidget spinner. Kind of reminds me of ninjas taking out their katanas before a duel.
When it comes to audio quality, the NU Republic Cyberstud Spin earbuds offered better quality than we expected. They have an ample amount of bass for the average Indian music enthusiast while delivering enough treble so that the lyrics are crystal clear. these earbuds, despite their affordable price tag, do not leave you craving for more.
The question of whether we really needed this combination of a fidget spinner and TWS earbuds can be answered by stating the following. You don’t always get what you need in tech. Sometimes, you’ll get something you didn’t know you needed. The rationale behind every innovation in tech is, at the end of the day, necessity. However, sometimes, it does not hurt to venture outside this bubble.
From a practical standpoint, this duo doesn’t make any sense. It’s not completely safe either. One of the ‘blades’ which houses the earbuds under it is already losing its grip. However, it is definitely an interesting product that offers a fresh perspective on wireless stereo products. At Rs, 2,499, the Cyberstud Spin is a worthy and out-of-the-box contender when it comes to affordable TWS earbuds.
