RBI panel suggests raising the ceiling on the stake of promoters in private banks from the existing 15 percent to 26 percent in 15 years. The panel has also recommended that after required changes to the Banking Regulations Act, large companies could be able to promote banks. The RBI committee headed by PK Mohanty, recommended that large NBFCs be converted into banks and also proposed that payment banks be converted into small finance banks.
