The Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, Jyotiraditya M Scindia, along with Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, to inaugurate the first flights on three crucial routes from Gwalior, ushering in a new era in air connectivity across the country.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Scindia highlighted the significance of this moment, considering it a new beginning aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The goal is to showcase and enhance India's economic and spiritual strengths through world-class connectivity.
Gwalior is now seamlessly connected with six major cities - Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Ayodhya, with a total of 33 weekly flight movements. Scindia expressed his gratitude to Air India Express for extending connectivity to Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Delhi.
In a major announcement, Scindia unveiled plans to create history by constructing a new terminal building in Gwalior, with an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore, and an ambitious completion timeline of just 16 months.
The futuristic terminal, spanning 2 lakh square feet, aims to meet the region's evolving demands while reflecting the rich history, culture, and ethos of Gwalior.
Commenting on the aviation sector's development in Madhya Pradesh, the Union Minister highlighted the remarkable progress since 2014.
The state, which previously had air connectivity with only 13 cities, has now expanded its reach to 31 cities. Notably, two international connections with Dubai and Sharjah have been established post-2014.
The government is actively investing in aviation infrastructure, with projects such as a new terminal in Jabalpur, development of Rewa airport for ATR aircraft landings, a new airport in Datia, and a new airfield in Satna. Additionally, Madhya Pradesh now hosts three new Flying Training Organisations, including Asia's first Helicopter Training Institute in Khajuraho.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Road Transport and Highways, Gen (Dr) V.K. Singh(Retd.), emphasised the government's commitment to enhancing air travel accessibility and convenience.
The newly inaugurated routes are seen as catalysts for travel and contributors to the overall development of the regions involved.
Air India Express has been entrusted to operate daily flights on the Bangalore – Gwalior – Delhi – Ayodhya – Delhi – Gwalior – Bangalore routes, ensuring a seven-day-a-week service to passengers.
The inauguration event was attended by various dignitaries, including Minister of Energy of Madhya Pradesh, Pradhuman Singh Tomar, Minister of Social Justice & Welfare of disabled people, Horticulture & Food Processing Narayan Singh Kushwah, Member of Parliament, Gwalior, Vivek Narayan Shejwalkar.
Also present were Vumlunmang Vualnam, Secretary, MoCA, Asangba Chuba Ao, Joint Secretary, MoCA, Alok Singh, Managing Director Air India Express, and other officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India, and the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
