India’s significance in the global technology landscape is rising, a sentiment echoed by Salesforce Chairman, CEO and Co-founder, Marc Benioff. Calling it the dawn of an “Indian era”, Benioff alluded to India’s growing influence, both as a market and a talent hub, for the tech major.
Addressing media at the ongoing Dreamforce 2024, Benioff said, “We are moving into an incredible moment in India. We have invested very aggressively in the market. We are very fortunate to have a phenomenal leader like Arundhati (Bhattacharya, Salesforce India CEO) leading our operations.”
Salesforce’s Indian team, under Bhattacharya’s leadership, plays a critical role in engineering, support and the company’s go-to-market strategy, according to the global CEO.
Indian Going Global
Citing companies such as Bajaj, Benioff spoke about how Indian businesses are leveraging the Salesforce platform to transform operations and drive customer success. With India’s rapidly evolving tech landscape and its emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing, Benioff believes the country is poised to shape the future of global technology.
Salesforce has been expanding its presence in India not just through local operations, but by integrating India into its global engineering and support structures. This includes deploying cutting-edge technologies like AI-powered autonomous agents that Benioff believes will revolutionise industries worldwide.
Salesforce faces stiff competition in India from the likes of homegrown players including Zoho and Freshworks and global tech players such as Microsoft, SAP, Oracle and the like. Its presence is not as dominant in India as in some of the other Asian markets such as Japan but this wave of innovation with Agentforce will be an interesting turn for the company’s presence in the country.
