Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi stated on Wednesday that the country's coal production will exceed one billion tonnes in the current fiscal year. The country's aim for fossil fuel output in 2023-24 is 1,012.14 MT.
The minister stated during the launch of the ninth round of commercial coal mine auction, "This year we are going to cross one billion tonnes production."
In the current fiscal year, the expected demand for coal is 1,196.60 million tonne (MT).
The need for electricity is expected to triple by 2030, and the country will require coal to meet that demand, according to the minister.
The sale of 100 coal blocks would be completed by the end of the ninth round of auction.
In the ninth round of commercial coal mine auctions, 31 coal mines are being offered. The auctioned mines are located in the coal and lignite-producing states of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana.
