Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and chief executive of Facebook, announced on Tuesday (November 02) that he and his wife Priscilla Chan would give 99 per cent of their Facebook shares “during our lives”. Mr Zuckerberg said the donation currently amounts to $45 billion. The pledge was made in an open letter to their new-born daughter, Max, who was born about a week ago. Mr Zuckerberg’s charitable plans are not new when it comes to growing interest in philanthropy among powerful billionaires.
