Youth across the globe are facing a lack of new opportunities which signifies a major uprising issue of young talents and minds going waning around the world, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.
While addressing the gathering in Rozgar Mela, he touched upon the crisis created for the youth at the global level the amid the fear of global recession, post-pandemic effect and geopolitical crisis.
He said that the young population is not getting no opportunities which is a serious concern that world leaders to need be concerned about.
The Prime Minister said that the youth is the biggest strength of the nation. The central government is according the highest priority to utilise their talent and energy for nation-building.
He also distributed about 71,000 appointment letters to newly inducted recruits under Rozgar Mela. Earlier in October, 75,000 appointment letters were handed over to newly inducted appointees.
Modi urged the appointees to make the most of the new opportunities that are presented to them. He highlighted that these appointment letters are only the entry point that opens up a world of growth for them and urged them to become deserving candidates by learning from experience and from their seniors.
The Prime Minister concluded by sharing his experience of learning and said that one should never let the student within the soul perish.
Meanwhile, as per the data of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) unemployed youth (the total labour force ages 15-24) was at least number in 2008 at 13.4 per cent which increased to 14.4 per cent in 2009 and remained the same till 2011.
In 2021, the number of unemployed youth reached 17.9 per cent also considered as the repercussion of the two years of the pandemic.
Apart from getting new opportunities, the youth is also facing losing out jobs and services through mass layoffs by corporate giants like Twitter, Meta and Amazon.
Among the G-20 countries, South Africa has the highest 64.14 per cent youth unemployment followed by Brazil at 31.9 per cent and Italy at 31.18 per cent.
A dynamic platform like G-20 has 80 youth delegates representing the G20 members who met in Indonesia for the Youth 20 (Y20), they discussed rejuvenating the global economy with the active participation of youngsters across the world, especially from G-20 nations.
