Xiaomi has launched their latest budget smartphone Redmi 5 in India today (14 March). After the launch of Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro, Redmi 5 is the new addition into Xiaomi’s budget smartphones portfolio.
The handset comes in three RAM+Storage configurations of 2GB+16GB, 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB which are priced at Rs 7,999, Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999, respectively. The handset will be available from March 20 through Amazon, Mi.com, and Mi Homes across India. Launch offers include- 5 percent instant discount on the purchase of Redmi 5 using SBI credit cards. Also, buyers can get Reliance Jio offer where they can avail cashback of Rs 2,200 and 100GB of data.
During the launch Xiaomi touted Redmi 5 as a compact powerhouse as the smartphone features an 18:9 aspect ratio display with thin bezels. The metal body Redmi 5 is only 7.7mm thin which makes it Redmi’s thinnest ever smartphone. It is 11 per cent slimmer than its predecessor Redmi 4.
Redmi 5 comes in four body shades- lake blue, rose gold, gold and black. Redmi 5 runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat and powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 450 processor with Adreno 560 GPU. It has 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM and 16GB/32GB/64GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB in all the variants.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch FHD (1440 x 720) display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 2.5D curved glass. The smartphone sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with 1.25 micron pixel, f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. On the front a 5-megapixel selfie camera with LED selfie flash.
The handset is backed by a 3,300mAh non-removable battery which according to Xiaomi will last for a day on regular usage. If you play games continuously, the battery would last for 9 hours. There is also a fingerprint sensor below the rear camera for unlocking the device.
Connectivity options include- dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Infrared, USB, 4G VoLTE, GPS, and GLONASS. The smartphone measures 151.8 x 72.8 x 7.7mm and weighs 157 grams.
