After the massive success of Pro Wrestling season 1, the Pro Wrestling season 2 is all set to begin from January 2, 2017 in New Delhi. A total of six teams will be participating in the tournament which includes teams from Punjab, Haryana, Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur and Uttar Pradesh.
The season 2 will see Delhi team in a totally new avatar. The team has got a new identity and a new name too. While they were called ‘Dilli Veers’ earlier, now the Delhi team has been renamed as Delhi Sultans.
Unveiling the new identity of the team in Delhi, Kartikeya Sharma, Promoter, Pro Wrestling League India and Managing Director, ITV Media Network said, “I think it will be a great opportunity for our viewers, our spectators, our fans and our wrestlers. I’m very proud of the fact that the level of players has increased from last year and I wish Delhi Sultans best of luck under the captaincy of Sakshi Malik.”
Sharing his thoughts on the launch of the Delhi team’s new identity, Anurag Thankur, MP and President BCCI said, “I am glad to see Indian sports creating more heroes. The start of IPL has given an opportunity for other games to pick this format and start more leagues. New sporting leagues are encouraging healthy competition and sustaining careers and even getting talent from rural India. The wrestling season last year was outstanding and I’m glad the way wrestling has done well. I urge the organisers to create more opportunities to make this sport even more popular.”
Anurag Batra, Chairman of BW Businessworld and owner of Delhi Sultans, said, “We have a fantastic team this year and we are very excited about the championship. At the end of it, we are all just facilitators and while naming the team we considered many options and decided to choose one that was neutral and not merely masculine and this is how the name Delhi Sultans was finally decided upon. As far as the season 2 of Pro Wrestling League is concerned, the expectations this year are very high, whether it is about the team performance, the spectators or the TV audience and we are all looking forth to the championship to begin.”
