Hillary Clinton, rightly said, “Life is too short, time is too precious, and the stakes are too high to dwell on what might have been.”
Remorse and regret in hindsight is a colossal waste of energy, make 2018 glorious.
Here are a few choices you should make to elude the big word “Regret” in 2018.
1. Stop worrying about the mistakes you’ve already made
We are human and are all bound to make mistakes. It’s OK if you've messed up in the past; that’s how you get wiser. Nothing like learning from your own experiences. Let your mistakes be your motivation, not your excuses. Decide right now that negative experiences from your past won’t predict your future. We have a habit of wearing our failures and losses as badges and allowing them to define us. Shed everything that no longer serves you, memories included.
2. Do not wear a mask to impress others
Do not be concerned about others opinions of you. If the face you always show the world is a mask, someday there will be nothing beneath it. If you spend too much time concentrating on everyone else’s perception of you, or who everyone else wants you to be, you eventually will forget who you really are. Your beliefs and perceptions of yourself are the most important; do not be swayed by the judgment of others. How you feel is all that counts.
3. Steer clear of negative people
Misery loves company. Stay away from people who make you feel bad and don’t let them get to you. Choose whom you spend your time with wisely. Keeping the company of negative people is a choice, not an obligation, free yourself to keep the company of compassion instead of anger, generosity instead of greed, and patience instead of anxiety.
4. Do not be resentful
Resentment creates tremendous negativity, not only mentally but physically too. The ramifications of carrying feelings of anger towards someone, manifest as ailments over time.
Resentment is not on the path to happiness. Kindness is not to be mistaken for weakness, nor forgiveness for acceptance
Remember, you don’t forgive people because you’re weak. You forgive them because you’re strong enough to know that people make mistakes and that you deserve to feel light.
5. Do not settle for less than you deserve
Out of desperation do not settle for less than what you deserve.
Be strong enough to let go and wise enough to fight for what you deserve. Work on your self-confidence and self-esteem enough to know your worth. Don’t allow other people to peg your value. Know it and own it
6. Don’t keep waiting endlessly until tomorrow
Most of us keep putting life off until some time in the future, procrastinating happiness. The trouble is, you always think you have more time than you do. But one day you will wake up and there won’t be any more time to work on the things you’ve always wanted to do. And at that point, you either will have achieved the goals you set for yourself, or you will have a list of excuses for why you haven’t.
7. Stop glorifying being busy and focus on being productive
There’s a big difference between being busy and being productive. Don’t confuse motion and progress. Try and plan your time better, don’t allow your energy to become diffused. It is very easy to become derailed, distraction is always just a click away!
