Even though democracy has a lengthy history, it is still evolving in the new digital age where the intervention of machines and AI is escalating every day. 2024 is a crucial year as six big democracies like India, the USA, Bangladesh and Pakistan are heading to the polls. However, democracy which is a sacred concept that is idealised to remain without intrusion will be contested in the presence of AI and bots that eventually create fear among people.
World Economic Forum 2024, Davos dedicated one session to world democracies combating the organic existence of democratic setup amidst increasing intervention of machines.
Smriti Irani who led the Indian delegation of Union Ministers joined the sessions representing India, apart from her Matthew Prince, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Cloudflare, Jan Lipavský, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, André Kudelski, CEO of the Kudelski Group and Alexandra Reeve Givens, Vice Chair of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation also graced the panel and gave their engrossing overviews about democracy.
Irani hailed India’s efforts in providing sufficient components to the citizens to perform digital democracy. She also appreciated the central government’s initiative ‘MyGov’ which is empowering every Indian to be a part of every policy making.
