As the education industry continues to transform, tech-integrated multimodal learning methods are challenging traditional learning techniques. With its progressive vision of making excellent education accessible and affordable for everyone, LEAD, a new-gen integrated school system that enables students to access materials, track assignments, interact with teachers, and access live and recorded classes, aims to make a difference in the lives of students.
Started in 2012 by Sumeet Mehta and Smita Deorah with a mission to transform school education in India, LEAD combines technology, curriculum and pedagogy into an integrated system of teaching and learning, thus improving student learning outcomes and teacher performance in schools across the country. Today, LEAD serves more than 3,500 schools across 400-plus cities, reaching 1.4 million students and empowering over 25,000 teachers.
Focus On Outcomes
“A child spends six hours in school and only one hour in tuitions. Transforming schools, when done right, has massive potential to alter our country’s future and build a ‘Confident India’. We believe that in school edtech, Saraswati precedes Lakshmi. Our intense focus has been on learning outcomes and life success of our students. And this has resulted in strong adoption by schools and also interest from investors who value returns with real impact,” says Deorah.
LEAD, through its integrated learning system, provides courseware, software, hardware and a school kit that contains everything a school will need to run the LEAD curriculum.
Says Deorah, “We’re extremely thankful to our team of LEADers for staying true to our mission and helping take LEAD to all corners of the country. We’re fortunate to have the trust and support of partners such as Elevar Equity, WestBridge Capital, and GSV in this journey. Turning a unicorn is a small milestone in our quest towards excellent education for every child.”
Large Reach
Almost all of LEAD’s partner schools are affordable private schools or average fee schools. Barring the top 2,000 schools out of the 500,000 private schools in India, all others come in the ‘affordable private’ category. Thus, LEAD caters to a very large underserved segment of the education system. LEAD is India’s first school edtech unicorn and is promoted by Leadership Boulevard.
LEAD’s integrated learning system significantly strengthens the role of schools, teachers and parents in advancing the overall growth and development of every child by providing quality education.
