Toyota Kirloskar Motor is officially going to open bookings for its upcoming premium sedan – Yaris, in the month of April. Toyota Yaris will be launched by mid-2018.
First unveiled for the Indian market at the Auto Expo 2018 on February 7, Yaris will have both manual and automatic (CVT) transmission and will be available in petrol engine only.
Toyota will introduce Yaris in multiple color options, some of them being Wildfire Red, Pearl White, Grey Metallic, Silver metallic and a few others.
This product is based on the same Yaris ATIV sedan that was launched in Thailand on 15 August 2017. Toyota is, however, producing the car since 1999.
The name "Yaris" is derived from "Charis", the singular form of Charites, the Greek goddesses of charm and beauty.
Coming back to India, here the sedan will have several first in segment features like – 7 SRS airbags including driver + passenger, side, curtain shield and knee; Tyre pressure monitoring system; Front and rear parking sensors; Roof mounted air-vents with ambient illumination; Power driver seat; Flat floor; Glass-high solar energy absorbing, IR cut, acoustic and vibration control; and All wheel disc brakes.
For safety, Toyota Yaris will have Vehicle stability control, Traction control, Hill-start assist control, Anti-lock braking system, Electronic brakeforce distribution, and Reverse camera.
Its class leading technology includes Optitron meter with TFT MID, FR and RR clearance sonar display in MID, Cruise control + paddle shift, and Rain sensing wipers.
Some other features of the car are – Rear sunshade, Waterfall design center cluster, Wide lower grill, Rear fog lamps, LED line guide, and Auto headlamps.
Yaris’ dual VVT-i, 1.5 gasoline engine is mated to both 7-speed automatic (CVT), and 6-speed manual transmissions.
In India, Toyota Yaris sedan will compete with the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and is likely to be priced somewhere around Rs 8 lakh – Rs 13 lakh.
