Thai AirAsia, a low-cost airline of AirAsia Group, will launch a daily direct flight between Kochi and Bangkok’s Don Mueang International airport starting 17 May 2016, its third direct south India service.
To mark the new service's launch, the airline is offering low one-way fares to Bangkok starting at Rs 2,999.
The Kochi services offers a new affordable option to people visiting Southeast Asia, the company said.
"India is a very important market for us and we are very committed to making air travel affordable and accessible from Kochi to Bangkok and beyond. As the first airline to launch a direct flight between Kochi and Bangkok, we are pleased to offer more convenience with a short 4 hour flight so travellers can have more time to enjoy our wonderful country," said Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia.
Soraya Homchuen, tourism authority of Thailand director of Mumbai, said, "We are very excited to welcome Indian visitors to Thailand. In 2015, a total of 1,069,149 Indian visitors arrived in Thailand making Indian travellers the 6th largest group of travellers to our country."
From Bangkok, AirAsia passengers can conveniently connect to Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai via Bangkok Don Mueang Airport with the airline’s fly-thru service which allows travellers to check-through their bags to their final destination.
From Kochi, this fly-thru service will be available in the near future and is targeted to be available for booking starting from mid April 2016 onwards.
A total of 104,393 Thai visitors travelled to India in 2014, an increase of 11 per cent over the previous year. Within India, Thai AirAsia also offers direct flights to Bangkok from Chennai and Bengaluru.
