Swedish company Clean Motion on Wednesday (February 10) launched its electric commercial vehicle Zbee to provide last-mile connectivity in India's congested urban areas.
Among the Zbee's first customers is DLF CyberHub in Gurgaon, which is using the vehicle to provide the last mile connectivity from DLF CyberHub to nearby offices and metro stations.
The company has entered into an agreement with DLF group to operate Zbees to and from the premises owned by the real estate developer.
"We at Clean Motion started developing technology which is clean and safe and can be a potential alternative transport solution and this led to Zbee. We are delighted that India is concerned and now open to and is looking at alternative solutions, and I am confident Zbee would soon become the preferred mode of transport for shorter distsnce," said Goran Folkesson, CEO of Clean Motion.
The Swedish vehicle is already running successfully across Europe and Indonesia, said Folkesson said.
The electric vehicle is made of fibre-reinforced plastic and comes with a lithium battery that can give a ride of up to 50 kilometres in a single charge.
It has received the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) certification in L5 category of the electric vehicle and also state approval from the Haryana government.
It can accommodate three passengers, including driver, and has a separate cabin for luggage.
Clean Motion, which assembles the Zbee at a Faridabad facility, has invested $1 million in India and will be investing $10 million more in one year. At present 100 Zbee units are being made in India every month.
The vehicle is priced at Rs 5 lakh for the Indian market.
