Sunny Deol-starrer 'Gadar 2' has set the Indian film industry abuzz by crossing the coveted Rs 500 crore mark within just 24 days of its release.
Released on 11 August 2023, the blockbuster swiftly made its way into the Rs 500 crore club, bringing the nostalgic magic of the original 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha' back to life. The film's fourth weekend witnessed earnings of over Rs 13.50 crore, indicating that it shows no signs of slowing down.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, a prominent voice in the industry, highlighted the significance of this achievement, noting that 'Gadar 2' has become the fastest film to cross the Rs 500 crore milestone. This feat surpasses the records previously held by Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan' and director SS Rajamouli's 'Baahubali 2' (Hindi), which took 28 and 34 days, respectively, to reach this milestone.
Sharing a detailed account of the movie's success, Taran Adarsh highlighted key milestones: Day 2 (Rs 50 crore), Day 3 (Rs 100 crore), Day 4 (Rs 150 crore), Day 5 (Rs 200 crore), Day 6 (Rs 250 crore), Day 8 (Rs 300 crore), Day 10 (Rs 350 crore), Day 12 (Rs 400 crore), Day 17 (Rs 450 crore), and finally, Day 24 (Rs 500 crore).
'Gadar 2' has particularly resonated with audiences in mass pockets and analysts are now eager to see how it performs in the heartland Hindi belt, especially with the arrival of 'Jawan' on the horizon.
Directed by Anil Sharma, 'Gadar 2' serves as a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,' in which Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel also played leading roles. In this latest installment, set against the backdrop of 1971, the film follows the journey of Tara (played by Sunny Deol) as he ventures into Pakistan to rescue his son, Charanjeet Singh (portrayed by actor Utkarsh Sharma), from the clutches of the Pakistani Army. The movie also features Manish Wadhwa and Gaurav Chopra in pivotal roles.
