Stainless Steel Fabrication Training Program Held For Varanasi Central Jail Inmates

In consonance with the Government’s rehabilitation program for prisoners, Varanasi Central Jail organised a stainless steel fabrication workshop for the jail inmates. The training program was facilitated by India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, Jindal Stainless. Spread over a period of three months, the first phase of the workshop for 50 shortlisted prisoners was conducted today by Jindal Stainless’ fabrication experts in the presence of Sr Superintendent of Varanasi Central Jail, Ambreesh Gaur and his team.

Commenting on this initiative, Gaur said, “Equal opportunities should be provided to everyone for learning new skill sets and shaping their own future. Learning should never stop and this workshop is a step in that direction. We thank Jindal Stainless for coming forward and joining hands with us for this training program. This program will help the inmates to be self-reliant and lead a respectable life after the completion of their jail tenure”  

The stainless steel fabrication training program is meticulously designed to educate trainees on key fabrication functions like welding, cutting, and polishing of stainless steel. Understanding these functions will help them design a number of stainless steel components, including railings, gates, utensils, small furniture, etc. The training program encompasses theoretical knowledge as well as practical fabrication experience. After the training, select trainees will support the jail authorities in taking this initiative to other jails of Uttar Pradesh.

In India, under the rehabilitation program for prisoners, several jail authorities provide infrastructure and means to support prisoners in developing new skill sets. Such training programs provide them a source of income while in jail and also an employment opportunity once they complete their prison term.

Speaking on this initiative, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless, Abhyuday Jindal, said, “We are happy to be associated with such an initiative which will enhance employment. The fabrication and welding of stainless steel require special expertise. As industry leaders, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to strengthen this industry-specific skill set in India. During the workshop, a showcase van exhibiting various industrial and household applications of stainless steel was also present at the venue. Used as a stainless steel School on Wheels, this van traverses the length and breadth of the country, educating the masses on the health, hygiene, and cost benefits of switching to stainless steel. 

Encouraged by the Skill India initiative, Jindal stainless has organised numerous stainless steel fabrication training programs for youths and local fabricators in various cities across India. As of today, over 10,000 fabricators across India have been trained in stainless steel fabrication.

Compared to conventional materials like mild steel and carbon steel, stainless steel is a green metal as it nearly 100% recyclable. Given its properties of resistance to corrosion, heat, pressure, and ageing, the metal finds application in diverse sectors, including railways, metro projects, bridges, transportation, heavy machinery etc. Regular hands-on training and expert professional guidance will help in boosting the domestic manufacturing sector.
