Schauna Chauhan, CEO, Parle Agro, has never been worried about competition. Frooti, one of the most well-known brands under the umbrella of Parle Agro has maintained its eminent position among the mango drinks. In 2016, it gained the number two position, the first being Coca Cola’s Maaza. Parle Agro, unlike many homegrown beverage brands, took on competition from multinationals such as Coca Cola and Pepsi and emerged a winner. Listening to people, focusing on getting the best out of them and fostering a winning team has been Chauhan’s recipe for success.
Born into a business family, Chauhan was groomed early. She took over as CEO from her father Prakash Chauhan, who founded the company in 1999. Her immediate focus was to grow the existing brands while introducing new products.
The company now wants to grow its exports business. It is already exporting to the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Dubai among others. Recently, the company has started exporting mango pulp too.
In 2016-17, the Rs 3000 crore Parle Agro witnessed a huge growth in its sales.
Building the right team and nurturing a healthy culture aimed at retaining people is critical for Chauhan. Equally important for her is building the ethos and values of the company.
