Last year, Xiaomi made a huge success in the Indian smartphone market with Redmi Note 4. This year with the aim to disrupt the smartphone industry again, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
The major highlights of the handset are- dual rear camera, 18:9 ratio display, 20-megapixel selfie camera, 4,000mAh battery, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, which makes Redmi Note 5 Pro the first phone to feature it.
In the mid-range smarphone segment Redmi Note 5 Pro will face competition with the likes of Honor 7X, Moto G5s Plus, and Samsung Galaxy On Max among others. Lets take a look at Redmi Note 5 Pro’s price and specifications and compare them with its competitors.
Software, Processor and Storage
Redmi Note 5 Pro runs on MIUI 9 which is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor coupled with 4GB/6GB RAM. It has 64GB of storage which is expandable up to 128GB through a MicroSD card in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration where second SIM slot doubles as a MicroSD card holder.
Honor 7X runs on EMUI 5.1 which is based on Android 7.0 Nougat. It is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 659 octa-core processor coupled with 4GB RAM. It has 64GB internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB through a hybrid dual-SIM configuration.
G5s Plus runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and powered by 2.0 Ghz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 4GB RAM. It has 64GB internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB through MicroSD card.
Samsung Galaxy On Max runs on Android 7.0 Nougat and powered by MediaTek MTK P25 Lite Octa Core 1.6 GHz processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. The device has internal storage of 32GB which is expandable up to 256GB through a MicroSD card.
Camera and Display
Redmi Note 5 Pro features a 5.99-inch FHD+ (2160x1080) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass for protection. It sports a dual camera at the rear which is the combination of 12-MP and 5-MP sensors with f/2.2 and f/2.0 apertures, respectively. The dual camera also have EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation) and LED flash. The vertical placement of dual camera resembles iPhone X.
On the front of Note 5 Pro is a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 sensor with f/2.2 aperture, AI-based Beautify 4.0 and LED selfie-light. Users can click Portrait mode with both rear and front camera.
The metal body Honor 7X features a 5.93-inch FHD+ (2160x1080) FullView display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Honor 7X sports a 16-megapixel+2-megapixel dual rear camera with Portrait mode, PDAF and LED flash. On the front is an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
Moto G5s Plus features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1920x1080) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It sports a dual camera setup at the rear with 13-MP+13-MP dual sensors with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. On the front is an 8-MP selfie camera with wide-angle lens, f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. Front camera comes with Beautification mode, Pro mode and Panorama.
Samsung Galaxy On Max features a 5.7-inch full HD (1920x1280) display. It sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture and LED Flash; on the front is also a 13-megapixel selfie camera with f/1.9 aperture and LED Flash.

The dual-SIM handset is backed by a 4,000mAh non-removable battery with fast charging. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor with which users can unlock the device. Connectivity options are- Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, 4G VoLTE, Micro-USB, 3.5mm audio-jack, and GPS. It measures 158.6 x 75.45 x 8.05mm and weighs 181 grams.
The dual-SIM Honor 7X smartphone is backed by a 3340mAh battery. There’s is also a rear mounted fingerprint sensor which unlocks the device in 0.25 seconds. Connectivity options are – Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, USB 2.0, 4G VoLTE, 3.5mm audio-jack, and GPS.
Moto G5s Plus is also backed by a 3000mAh battery which lasts for a day. With TurboPower charging, you can get 6 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes. It also has a fingerprint sensor at the bottom of the display which can unlock the device as well as used for navigating the screen. Connectivity options include - Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, micro USB, 3.5mm audio-jack, and GPS.
The dual-SIM handset is backed by a 3300mAh battery; it also houses a front-mounted fingerprint sensor. Like Samsung’s Galaxy J7 Max, the On Max also comes with Samsung Pay Mini where the users can turn their device into a wallet storing credit and debit cards. Connectivity options are- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, 3.5mm audio-jack, and GPS.
Price and Availability
Redmi Note 5 Pro comes in two RAM+Storage variants of 4GB+64GB and 6GB+64GB which are priced at Rs 13,999 and Rs 16,999, respectively. It is available through Flipkart, Mi.com, Mi Home and will soon be available across offline stores. It comes in gold, black, lake blue and rose gold body shades.
Price in India of Honor 7X starts from Rs 12,999 for 32GB and Rs 15,999 for 64GB variant. The handset is available in gold, blue and black colours.
Moto G5s Plus was launched in India at a price of Rs 15,999 but it is now available at a reduced price of Rs 14,299. The handset is available at Amazon and Moto Hubs across India. It comes in in lunar gray and blush gold colours.
Samsung launched Galaxy On Max at Rs 16,900, it is now available at reduced price of Rs 14,990. The handset is available at Flipkart and Samsung’s website. It comes in gold and black colours.
