The ministry of health on Friday informed that all adults above the age of 18 will now be able to get precautionary Covid-19 vaccine doses at private healthcare centres from April 10.
"All those who are more than 18 years of age and have completed nine months after the administration of the second dose, would be eligible for precaution dose. This facility would be available in all private vaccination centres," said the ministry.
“The ongoing free vaccination programme through government vaccination centers for the first and second dose to the eligible population as well as precaution dose to healthcare workers, frontline workers and 60+ population would continue and would be accelerated," it added.
At present, India is administering the precautionary third dose to priority groups – healthcare workers, frontline workers, and to those aged above 60. This is being administered free of cost at government vaccination centres.
According to official data, more than 2.4 crore precautionary doses have been administered so far.
