German Luxury carmaker Porsche on Wednesday (February 15) launched much-anticipated sports car, the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman in India at a price of Rs 85.53 lakh and Rs 81.63 lakh respectively. The company said that the new cars will help Porsche to give a wide range of options to buyers and bring volume for the company.
Pavan Shetty, director Porsche India, said, “Our previous sports car Porsche 911 comes in the higher price bracket. The Boxter and Cayman are priced below 911 and can get volumes for us and also keep the aspirational level high.”
Last year, Porsche sold 401 cars in the domestic market. Porsche said that 70 per cent of its total sales come from the SUV segment while sports segment and Panamera contributes 20 per cent and 10 per cent respectively.
Shetty said that Porsche is expecting a stable growth in 2017, provided other factors remain stable. “Last year decisions like diesel ban and hike in VAT by few state governments impacted the luxury car market,” Shetty said.
Boxster and Cayman are powered by a 2 litre, 4 cylinders turbocharged engine. Both the cars produce 298 bhp and 380Nm of torque. The cars can achieve the 0 to 100 kmph feat in 4.7 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 275 kmph.
Deesch Papke, CEO of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE, said: “The new 718 Cayman and Boxster are great examples of Porsche’s ability to produce segment leading, mid-engine sports cars. Both models offer customers an option of a sporty coupé or cabriolet and have an abundance of performance features that ensure driving pleasure.”
Porsche is India has 6 outlets and 8 service stations and will come up with a new showroom in Cochin next month. Porsche said that Delhi NCR is its biggest market, followed by Mumbai and southern market.
