The book “The Subtle Shifts of Radical Change" is about the changes that happened right during the pandemic, said Nikhil Arora, Vice President & Managing Director, India, GoDaddy, in delineating his book.
While speaking at the Gurugram chapter of the 4th Edition of the India Business Literature Festival (IBLF), Arora said that books unveil a shift in people's behaviour from entitlement to humility, with everyone finding themselves at a similar level or condition during the pandemic.
Arora mentioned that the anecdotes from the pandemic made us realise the importance of having a community with the world at a standstill.
Speaking about the future of work, he said that working from home was convenient and relevant, but in the future, hybrid modes will need to exist. In light of the workers' reluctance to return to work, he recommended that businesses update their HR policies and foster employee engagement through team-building exercises, as well as provide for the workers' mental, physical, and spiritual wellness.
While defining the new role of a leader, he stated that now a leader needs to be empathetic with trust-building capabilities and should be able to bring employees in line with the company.
He composed GDP as "G," representing that a leader needs to be trained to deal with government and public policy as pandemics reveal the inevitably important role of government in everything. The "D" stands for deglobalisation, as evidenced by India's economic resilience in the face of the global recession, which was fueled by domestic consumption. And "P" reflects the purpose that the leader needs to ensure throughout the organisation. It also includes the community-building aspect.
Explaining the paradigm shift in succession planning for a company, Arora said that what matters most is how agile a leader is, his thinking-on-his-feet ability, and his ease with ambiguity.
About subject matter expertise, he stated that it can be taught and hence experience doesn’t hold the same vitality as before.
