Electric Vehicle manufacturer Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM), founded by ex-NRI Uday Narang believes its two-tonner, electric-Small Commercial Vehicle (e-SCV) may alter the market dynamics when it is launched towards the end-2021 or early-2022 when it will also be offered in an autonomous technology version. The upcoming e-SCV will be more than 90 per cent localized and will be available in three variants with the base version being earmarked for normal cargo movement, mid-range for food and milk delivery (-2-to-4-degree temperature), and top-end for vaccine transportation. Some of the standard features of the vehicle are air conditioning, EPS, Airbags, seatbelts, GPS-enabled dashboard.
Besides the electric pickup truck, the company is also rolling out two-wheelers (in March’21) followed by an e-bus and an e-tractor—all coming in 2021 and thereafter.
Dr. Deb Mukherji, Managing Director, OSM said: “We are already in the advanced stage of development of a lithium-ion battery-powered Two-Tonne payload truck that will be able to cover 200Kms in a single charge. We are in discussions with a couple of batterymakers to source the powertrains for this vehicle and are planning to keep the price below Rs. 10 lakh, beating the ICE vehicles of this range.”
The e-SCV will be targeted at the e-Commerce companies along with the cargo players who require inter-city medium-duty vehicles. "We are planning to sell 10,000 units in the first year going up to 25,000 per year,” Mukherji said.
A strategic business unit of the Anglian Omega Group, OSM has already expanded its EV range by recently unveiling Sun Ri (three-wheeler cargo), Ride (E-rickshaw), and Stream (passenger auto-rickshaw).
“In 2021, we will be rolling out 12,000 three-wheelers & 5000 two-wheelers. In the subsequent year, our overall sales target is 15000-16,000 three-wheelers, 25,000 two-wheelers, and ten thousand four-wheelers (e-SCV). On an overall basis, we are looking to sell fifty thousand units per year by the end of 2022,” said Mukherji.
