The opposition leaders in the Maharashtra assembly on Tuesday held a protest by marching on foot in the style of "warkaris" and accused the Eknath Shinde-led state government of engaging in corruption.
The opposition stalled the proceedings on Monday by calling for the resignation of Agriculture Minister Abdul Sattar over a land "regularisation" order he had signed while serving as a minister in the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.
As a result, both Houses of the Maharashtra legislature were adjourned for the day.
The Bombay High Court's Nagpur division this week sent Sattar a notice for "regularising" the possession of property designated for public "gairan" (grazing) in favour of a private individual in defiance of a civil court decision.
When a Nagpur bench of the High Court on December 14 ordered status quo regarding a decision made by Chief Minister Shinde to allot private individuals land intended for slum dwellers when he was a minister in the previous Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA, the opposition members had earlier called for Shinde's resignation.
The HC on December 22 approved the withdrawal of the order of regularisation issued by the CM lately and noted it was treating the matter as concluded notwithstanding Shinde's denial of any misconduct.
