E-tailers are ready for the Republic Day by offering 50-80 per cent discounts on their platforms. Discounts are given across all categories whether its lifestyle products, electronics, clothes, accessories, and grocery.
This year, Snapdeal announced a six-day sale across categories from 21st to 26th January 2016 with up to 70 per cent savings. Last year, they did a three-day Republic Day sales.
In addition, they have also launched a store "Pride of India" that offers handlooms and handicrafts from different regions of the country. For that, Snapdeal has partnered with various state governments like Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and central government bodies like Tribes India and Central Cottage Emporium to bring the indigenous products online.
Rahul Taneja, Vice President-Category Management, Snapdeal said, "The Republic Day Sale will see discounts go up as high as 70 per cent…Looking back at the euphoric response we have seen for special sales on earlier occasions, we expect the average daily users to grow by eight to ten times throughout the republic day week."
eBay India launched a "Democrazy sale" offering 75 per cent off in the lifestyle category and up to 55 per cent off on electronic items. As a part of the promotional period, ebay did exclusive launches of Intex Cloud Force, Weston Smart watches and Lava Iris V5.
The B2C e-commerce market in India has exhibited rapid growth in the recent year and has attracted large investments from the PE/VC community. With positive fillips from the demand and supply side, the e-commerce market is likely to reach $60 billion by 2017, said Deloitte India report on online retail.
Flipkart kicked-off the three day "Republic Day Sale" between 20th and 22nd January. The three-day sale event saw 30 per cent growth in traffic, most of which came from metros such as Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai , Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, the company statement said.
Top-selling brands during the Republic Day sale were Intex, Ambrane and Honor. Apart from that, memory cards saw a 300 per cent growth in sales. Also, gaming consoles and DSLR cameras saw a good traction, said Flipkart’s statement.
Other players that offered sales were Amazon’s Great Indian Sale for three days and Shopclues ‘4th pe 1/4th rates pe’ sale over six days from 21st and 26th January, 2016 across categories.
