Nissan Motor India, which is aiming for 5 percent market share by 2020, has launched the updated version of its compact hatchback Micra with prices starting from Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
While the petrol variants are priced between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 6.95 lakh, the diesel trims are tagged between Rs 6.62 lakh and Rs 7.23 lakh. It will be taking on Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i10, Honda Brio and a host of other premium hatches in the similar category.
"The new Micra brings together Japanese technology and European styling in a package that makes it one of the best premium urban hatchbacks at an attractive price point. The new Micra comes with segment-first features such as automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and “Lead-me-to-Car” that helps the driver locate and find his car using a smart key," Nissan Motor India MD Arun Malhotra told reporters during the event.
The Indian arm of the Japanese automobile maker is also planning to launch eight new cars from the Datsun and Nissan brands in India by 2021 apart from widening its presence in non-metro cities.
At present, the company has approximately 2 percent market share with products ranging from Datsun brand in the entry-level car range right up to products in the premium range comprising X-Trail.
However, the Yokohama-based company doesn’t intend to get into the luxury segment in India with its Infiniti range of product lines.
The updated Micra is equipped with 1.2 petrol engines with automatic transmission and 1.5 litre diesel powertrain paired with a 5- speed manual transmission.
Nissan has so far sold around 80,000 units of the car in India since its launch in 2010.
