Datsun, Nissan’s subsidiary on Thursday (April 14) unveiled its much anticipated small car the redi-GO in India. The company informed that bookings for the car will start from May 1, 2016 and the car will be launched in the first week of June.
This is the third Datsun product in India to join the GO family. The first two were GO hatchback and GO+ sub-compact MPV.
The car is expected to be priced to come at a price tag from 2.5 lakh to 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will compete with Renault Kwid, Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon.
While there will only be the small 799cc petrol engine initially, there could be a slightly bigger petrol and a diesel powertrain in months to come. The 799cc petrol engine is good for 53bhp and 72Nm.
The hatchback is built on the CMF-A platform, the one also used in Renault Kwid.
The company also informed that Redi-Go will be open for various customisation options, and will be sold through over 200 Nissan-Datsun showrooms and 49 stand-alone outlets. The group targets to open 300 showrooms soon.
Guillaume Sicard - President, Nissan India Operations said "Datsun returned to fulfill dreams of a young generation, with Redi-Go." Daniele Schillaci, Executive Vice President- Global Sales and Marketing at Nissan Motor Co stated that "Datsun aims at achieving 5 per cent market share in India by 2020."
