US-based streaming service Netflix is reportedly in talks on its password cracking down measures in India and other market parts like Kenya, Indonesia and Croatia, according to a media report on Thursday.
The OTT platform notified that subscribers from only a single household will have access to an account henceforth. This means one using the same internet connection, will be allowed to enjoy the basic plan in ‘Netflix Household'.
Reports mentioned that the OTT major’s action came following its ban on password sharing worldwide in May.
Furthermore, it stated that the company will not offer the ‘extra member’ option in the countries in which it has recently started the price cut. The new feature will mandate subscribers pay extra if an additional member is added to their account.
The company notified its shareholder about the measure it said, beginning today, we are addressing the account sharing between households in almost all remaining countries of our service.
It stressed the fact of not offering an extra member option due to recent price cuts down which were in good numbers in Indonesia, Croatia, Kenya, and India. But since the penetration is still relatively low in many of them, there seems to be plenty of runway without creating additional complexity, the company added.
Netflix underlined that borrowing users would have the leverage of transferring their current profile to new and existing accounts.
