Did you know that many countries in the world are now enacting laws that protect whistleblowers? While these laws are a big step towards a progressive and ethical society, whistleblowing is not for the faint hearted. It has its own challenges on the ground and can either make or break a career. Normally you will find a powerful figure at the center of this, in this case a powerful boss. If you want to report something that you think is unethical first be sure that it falls under that category and there is irrevocable proof that it exists. •First, before you assume, learn the facts. Be absolutely sure you know the facts before you give an opinion or a statement. •Read companies guideline about ethical and unethical behaviors. •After confirming everything, considering the consequences and the evidence, and now you are ready to file the report. •Share details discreetly with the Top Management and leave it to them to decide. End of the day you never know the top management may know what the person is doing and may not consider it unethical. And if all this is too hard for you and you cannot carry the burden then look for opportunities with companies who are known to be ethical.
