Favoritism is human nature. During childhood, we have a favorite toy. At workplace, a favorite team member. It’s important to differentiate between favoritism and recognition. Assess the situation to understand whether you are really a casualty. Continue your hard work and better your performance. Stay positive, avoid gossiping on the issue and keep it professional. When people talk, barriers break. Talk to your boss. While talking, be diplomatic, don’t discuss favoritism. Instead, discuss new opportunities where you can contribute. Keep the channel of communication open. Even if HR is not strong enough, it is not a bad idea to go to them as a last resort. They may still help. Favoritism, at workplace, is as common as water dispenser and coffee machine and does not call for leaving the job. Stay courageous and fight it out.
