At one time, the Moto G and its successive generations was the most readily recommended phone for anyone looking for a good deal on a budget. Each new generation found it had more competition to tackle and today, the fourth Moto G has more of it than ever. Perhaps that's why Motorola, which now fully is part of the Lenovo stable, has launched two variants to the Moto G: the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus at an event in New Delhi.
The Moto G4 Plus costs Rs. 13,499 for a 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage version and Rs. 14,999 for a 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant. The pricing for the plain Moto G4 is yet to be announced, but it's obvious that these are in roughly the same price range as before. What's on offer, however, has been dialled up a bit -- so these are still value-for-money smartphones.
There are some design tweaks to the new generation of Moto Gs, not necessarily to its advantage. With what other companies like Xiaomi and LeEco are bringing to the market, these phones may look a little dull and boring. The G4 Plus is now bigger, at 5.5 inches with a bright and vibrant 1080 x 1920p screen. Both phones use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 1.5GHz Octa-core processor and perform fast, according to initial reports. This is in part because the phones are running Android Marshmallow without much tampering. Instead of bloatware, there are some useful features to control functions such as the SIMS. The phones have dual SIM slots with an adaptor so you can use either micro or nano SIMs. Also a slot for a memory card to add 128GB of storage.
The camera on the Moto G4 Plus is a 16MP with PDAF and f2.0 aperture. And on the Moto G4 there's 13MP rear camera. The front camera is a 5MP.
