<p style="text-align: justify;">Motorola just announced the Moto X Play today in India but the company did not reveal the larger version, the Moto X Style. Amit Boni, GM, Motorola India, did however confirm that the big brother of the Moto X Play will be announced probably by next month. Until then we have the Moto X Play, a handsome looking smartphone packing a huge 3,630mAh battery, a waterproof body, changeable back panels and a promising hardware.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">But how does the new Moto X Play stand up against the last year’s Moto X 2nd gen or for that matter the new Moto G 3rd gen? Comparing the new smartphone to its predecessor, the Moto X Play has a new design, but keeps some of Motorola’s design elements intact like the metal strips on the front that contain the speakers and the Motorola logo dimple at the back. Speaking of which, the back has been redesigned and has a removable rubber-textured back panel and a metal strip, both of which were also seen on the Moto G 3rd-gen. This metal strip also houses a new 21MP camera which is a significant update from last year’s Moto X, although it isn’t the best in class as Motorola still needs to improve their camera software. Since Motorola has made two versions of the Moto X this year, the Moto X Play has been placed as the more affordable version and justifies its price point. For the ones who want a more premium package, something that the last year’s Moto X offered, they can probably wait for the Moto X Style.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The handset is targeted more towards consumers who want a slightly better experience than the Moto G without having to shell out a whole lot extra. Compared to the latest Moto G it is larger and has a 5.5-inch full HD display, a faster Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, the better camera and of course that large 3,630mAh battery which is probably the biggest attraction of the Moto X Play.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Here is a quick comparison of the smartphones on paper...</p><table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="width:788px;" width="787"><colgroup><col><col><col><col></colgroup><tbody><tr height="20"><td height="20" style="height: 20px; width: 111px; text-align: center;"> </td><td style="width: 216px; text-align: center;"><strong>Moto X Play</strong></td><td style="width: 247px; text-align: center;"><strong>Moto G 3rd gen</strong></td><td style="width: 215px; text-align: center;"><strong>Moto X 2nd gen</strong></td></tr><tr height="20"><td height="20" style="height: 20px; text-align: center;"> </td><td style="text-align: center;"> </td><td style="text-align: center;"> </td><td style="text-align: center;"> </td></tr><tr height="20"><td height="20" style="height: 20px; text-align: center;">Launch Price</td><td style="text-align: center;">Rs. 18,499 (16GB) / Rs. 19,999</td><td style="text-align: center;">Rs. 11,499 (8GB) / Rs. 12,999</td><td style="text-align: center;">Rs. 31,999 (16GB) / Rs. 32,999 (32GB)</td></tr><tr height="20"><td height="20" style="height: 20px; text-align: center;">Display</td><td style="text-align: center;">5.5-inch 1080p FHD</td><td style="text-align: center;">5-inch 720p HD</td><td style="text-align: center;">5.2-inch 1080p FHD</td></tr><tr height="20"><td height="20" style="height: 20px; text-align: center;">Processor</td><td style="text-align: center;">Snapdragon 615, 1.7GHz octa-core</td><td style="text-align: center;">Snapdragon 410, 1.4GHz quad-core</td><td style="text-align: center;">Snapdragon 801, 2.5GHz quad-core</td></tr><tr height="20"><td height="20" style="height: 20px; text-align: center;">RAM</td><td style="text-align: center;">2GB</td><td style="text-align: center;">1GB/2GB</td><td style="text-align: center;">2GB</td></tr><tr height="20"><td height="20" style="height: 20px; text-align: center;">Storage</td><td style="text-align: center;">16GB/32GB expandable to 128GB</td><td style="text-align: center;">8GB/16GB expandable to 32GB</td><td style="text-align: center;">16GB/32GB </td></tr><tr height="20"><td height="20" style="height: 20px; text-align: center;">Camera</td><td style="text-align: center;">21MP rear, 5MP front</td><td style="text-align: center;">13MP rear, 5MP front</td><td style="text-align: center;">13MP rear, 2MP front</td></tr><tr height="20"><td height="20" style="height: 20px; text-align: center;">Battery</td><td style="text-align: center;">3,630mAh</td><td style="text-align: center;">2,470mAh</td><td style="text-align: center;">2,300mAh</td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p>
