Prime Minister, Narendra Modi held a bilateral talk with his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni in the second half of the G-20 summit. PM Modi appreciated Italy’s support for India’s G20 Presidency, Italy is also joining the Global Biofuel Alliance and the India - Middle East - Europe Economic Corridor.
Both countries have completed 75 years of their diplomatic relationship and talked about extending their cooperation in the areas of defence and new emerging technologies.
PM Modi posted on X, “I had an excellent meeting with PM@GiorgiaMeloni. Our talks covered sectors such as trade, commerce, defence, emerging technologies and more. India and Italy will keep working together for global prosperity.”
India and Italy have great historical and cultural legacies. As per the data. Italy is the 17th largest FDI contributor to India.
India also exports many items to Italy on a large scale, such as Iron ore, jewellery, textiles, gems, chemicals etc.
India and Italy partnered in key sectors like railway, finance, automobile and fashion. According to the numbers, there are nearly 400 Italian companies working in India through subsidiaries or in joint ventures with local companies.
This is the second visit of Prime Minister Meloni to India following her State visit in March 2023, during which bilateral relations were raised to the level of a Strategic Partnership.
