Micron Technology is to construct a USD 2.75 billion chip assembly and test facility in Gujarat, starting this August, said Information Technology Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, according to a media report on Wednesday.
This will break ground for India’s semiconductor assembly plant launch and production of its first domestically manufactured microchips by the end of 2024, the report said additionally.
The report mentioned that earlier last month, Micron Technology had hinted about its plan and announced a USD 85 million investment.
The company had underlined, it aims to enable assembly and test manufacturing for both DRAM and MAM products, which will address the growing domestic and international market demands.
Furthermore, the report suggested that the Phase 1 operations of the semiconductor assembly plant are likely to start by the end of 2024. While Phase 2 of the project may begin by the end of the decade.
It emphasised that once Micron’s plant becomes operational, it is anticipated to generate nearly 5,000 direct jobs and close to 15,000 community jobs.
