In a move that appears to capitalise on recent frustrations with Twitter's post restrictions, Meta has announced its plans to release a microblogging app called Threads.
The launch is scheduled for Thursday and aims to provide users with an alternative text-based conversation platform.
Threads, described as Instagram's text-based conversation app, will enable users to follow the accounts they currently engage with on the popular photo-sharing platform. The app will also allow users to retain their existing usernames, offering a seamless transition for Instagram users. The listing of Threads on Apple's App Store confirmed the imminent launch.
This development follows Twitter's recent announcement of various restrictions on its platform, including a temporary cap on the number of posts users can read. The restrictions were introduced by Twitter's executive chair, Elon Musk, who sought to address concerns related to data scraping. However, these measures have received significant backlash from Twitter users.
