Maruti Suzuki India Limited on Friday (08 January) released a sketch of its upcoming Vitara Brezza compact SUV. The car will be showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo set to be held in February and will be launched a few weeks after the event.
Expected to be priced around Rs 8-11 lakh, Brezza which means "fresh breeze" in Italian is expected to compete with Ford EcoSport and Mahindra's upcoming KUV100.
According to several reports, the company may also launch the more premium Vitara S at a later date.
"Several elements in the exterior design impart a distinct character to the Brezza: a balanced proportion supported by square wheel arches, short overhangs, high ground clearance and upright hood gives the vehicle a confident stance. The raising belt and rocker lines, and the roofline that slopes down gently towards the rear give the vehicle a dynamic posture," the company said in a statement.
The car maker has been working on the vehicles for more than four years after it had showcase the concept XA Alpha in 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi. The company’s recently launched compact SUV S-Cross failed to meet company’s expectation and lost the battle against Hyundai’s Creta and Ford’s Ecosports.
With Brezza, the largest car-maker of the country will look forward to strengthen its position in one of the most popular segment in the Indian car market, the compact SUV segment.
Meanwhile, Renault is also planning to launch a facelifted version of the immensely popular Duster while Toyota is planning to make a foray into this segment as well and may bring in Rush this year.
