After disappointing sales in February 2016, the country's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki sold 1.29 lakh units in March, posting a growth of 15.9 per cent year-on-year.
Domestic sales witnessed a jump of 14.6 per cent while exports rose by 33.4 per cent, the company said.
The February sales took a hit due to the Haryana Jat job reservation agitation, which resulted in a production loss of 10,000 units.
The company has ended the 2015-16 fiscal year with its highest ever sales of 1,429,248 units, representing a growth of 10.6 per cent. This comprises record domestic sales of 1,305,351 units and 123,897 units of exports.
"New models including S-Cross, Baleno and Vitara Brezza, innovations & new technologies, expansion of existing network and introduction of NEXA bought incremental numbers," the company said in a statement.
The compact car segment which includes cars such as Swift, Ritz, Dzire, Celerio and Baleno contributed maximum to total sales for March 2016. The segment witnessed a growth of 20.9 per cent growth.
Compact sedan cars such as Dzire Tour and Ciaz saw their sales grow by 21 per cent and 28.9 per cent respectively while utility vehicles reported strong growth in percentage terms.
However, the mini car segment (Alto and WagonR) remains a worry for the company as the segment showed a decline of 8.7 per cent in March 2016 compared wiht the same month last year.
