If you have still not linked your permanent account number (PAN) to your Aadhaar, you need to do it fast.
The Income Tax Department (IT) has posted a reminded on social media platform X asking people to link PAN with Aadhar by May 31, 2024.
"Kind attention taxpayers, please link your PAN with Aadhaar before May 31, 2024, if you haven't already, in order to avoid taxation at a higher rate," the post read.
It is important to note that linking PAN and Aadhar is mandatory for all taxpayers. If you fail to link the two, it will result in your PAN card being inoperative and no tax refunds will be issued against unlinked accounts. Further, no interest will be payable on the refund for the time the PAN card remains inoperative. Also, you will have to pay tax collected at source (TCS) and tax deducted at source (TDS) at a higher rate.
How To Link Pan With Aadhaar
Here are the steps to link PAN with Aadhaar. Head over to the Income Tax Department's website and look for the 'Quick Links' section. There, you'll find the option to 'Link Aadhaar'.
Once you click on that, enter your PAN and Aadhaar number. The website will ask you to confirm them, so double-check before proceeding.
Next, you'll need to provide your name exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar card, along with your mobile number. Once that's done, click on 'Link Aadhaar' again.
Finally, you'll receive a one-time code (OTP) on your mobile phone. Enter that code on the website and click 'Validate' to finish linking your Aadhaar.
