Tata Motors owned luxury vehicle brand Jaguar has unveiled its first all-electric production vehicle – the I-Pace, to the world in a live broadcast, ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2018 on 6 March.
The performance SUV is currently on sale in the UK starting from £63,495 (around Rs 57 lakh). In addition to S, SE and HSE derivatives, there will also be a limited number of First Edition I-Pace models available in the UK.
However, according to reports, Indian customers will have to wait for the SUV to get launched in the country. The reason given for this delay is the absence of a proper ecosystem for electric vehicles in India.
Designed and engineered in the UK, the I-Pace will be built in Plant Graz, Austria, as part of Jaguar Land Rover’s manufacturing partnership with Magna Steyr.
The Jaguar I-Pace is designed by Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar. The concept version of the model was presented at the Los Angeles Motor Show 2016.
Jaguar I-Pace has a range of 480km (298miles), which is enabled through its lithium-ion battery that has a capacity of 90kWh.
The I‑Pace powertrain provides 400PS of output and 696Nm of torque, and its all wheel drive system helps it in accelerating from 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds (0-60mph in 4.5 seconds).
Its design and styling cues is true to both Jaguar and to I-Pace concept. Some of its exterior elements are bold grille curves moving inwards, squared off corners minimizing the pressure differences that cause drag, deployable door handles for smooth airflow, and slim futuristic LED headlights featuring signature double ‘J’ blade graphic.
Coming to the interiors, Jaguar I‑Pace features a floating centre console at the heart of the cabin. Its seats feature heating and cooling options. To maintain the calm interior, I‑Pace features acoustic laminated glass on the front windows and windscreen, reducing noise entering the cabin from outside.
Behind the rear seats, the loadspace is 656 litres with a length of 967mm. Completing I‑Pace’s carrying capacity is a front storage compartment, beneath the bonnet, that provides 27 litres of additional storage. The absence of a drivetrain has created space for a 10.5 litres cubby bin under the front centre armrest.
Its in-car technology includes Touch Pro Duo infotainment system comprising of a 10” Touchscreen integrated into the dashboard and a lower 5” Touchscreen with multi-function dynamic dials. Its 12.3” high-definition Interactive Driver Display provides relevant driving information and Navigation Pro allows you to display a choice of 2D or 3D maps.
