The Indian Anime Movement is a petition that was created in April 2019 to bring the anime movie culture to India. This petition’s success has resulted in the release of the anime film ‘Weathering With You’ in India. This will be the first-ever Japan Anime film to be screened for the Indian audiences. The movie will be aired on October 11, 2019.
The first-ever anime movie which is a romantic drama is a huge hit in Japan with nearly $100 million, and one of Japan’s blockbuster movie ever. The movie is from Makoto Shinkai, the director of "Your Name”, which is japan’s highest-grossing animated movie ever with $235 million.
The Indian Anime Movement is an activity led by Mr Shubham Sharma alongside his team of anime YouTubers and creative makers. The petitioners understood that there is a great deal of Indian anime fans that are left unnoticed by the animation companies, this is the reason the greater part of the anime isn't even accessible in the nation which brought about beginning an appeal to bring this film to India. The literal meaning of ‘weathering with you’ is ‘the child of weather’.
“It feels incredible that a movement started by us is fruitful and now as a result of our unlimited endeavours, we have the greatest hit of Japan, Weathering With You accessible for Indian group of spectators. The fundamental purpose behind making the initiative isn't simply to carry the film to India yet bring the whole anime culture to India, legitimately. The greater part of the anime Crunchyroll is not accessible in our nation and it is the reason the watchers watch it in free and illicit streaming sites are indirectly promoted”, stated Mr Shubham Sharma, Founder and Mr Sarthak Kumar, Co-Founder, Team IAM.
They further added, “It was a sigh of relief and triumph when the director of Weathering with You, Mr Makoto Shinkai saw the campaign effort and answered in a tweet saying, they are talking to the Indian film industry regarding the distribution rights.”
It was made possible when Team IAM did their best to spread awareness, by using the hashtag #indiawantsanime campaign, getting posters and t-shirts printed with the same hashtags and then distributing them in large scales in the streets of Delhi. However, the major reason behind the success of the campaign was due to the support of the anime fans who keenly wanted the movie to be released in India.
The movie is made available in India by The Officials (PVR, Vkaao) who noticed IAM’s petition getting signed by over 50,000 people.
